Job Description

Supervises the proper set up, service, and clean up of meals for patients, cafeteria, and catering.

Monitors, evaluates, and instructs the staff in adherence to departmental policies and procedures.

Inspects kitchen and cafeteria facilities and equipment on an ongoing basis for adherence to sanitation and safety standards.

Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

Participates in the collection and review of data recorded as a part of quality assurance/control.

Initiates disciplinary action when appropriate.

Orders items as needed and assures that such products meet quality standard and are properly stored and rotated.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Actively assists with kitchen, cafeteria and catering positions as needed.

Represents the department on hospital committees as assigned.

Performs special projects and related duties as assigned.

Conducts in-service and orientation programs for staff as assigned.

Qualifications

1-2 years college with a Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

1-2 years food service experience in a health care facility with demonstrated leadership ability.

Microsoft Word and Excel experience preferred.

Additional Information

Exposure to infectious disease and possibly hazardous chemicals.  Frequent standing and walking, occasional sitting and lifting of 10-15 lbs.

Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate computer keyboard.

Requires ability to see and hear patient diet changes and visually make these changes: hear comments, requests, and questions and react: visually monitor all departmental activities: visually check patient diets and meal trays.

Supervises a staff of fifty including cooks and diet aides.

Constant contact with all food service staff.  Daily contact with nursing, and frequent contact with patients, all other departments and non hospital employees.

All decisions are subject to the Director’s final approval.
