Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Progressive Care/Step-Down Registered Nurse to join our healthcare team. As a Progressive Care/Step-Down RN, you will play a crucial role in providing specialized care to patients who are in a transition phase between critical care and general medical-surgical units. Your expertise in monitoring and managing patients with complex medical conditions will be essential in promoting their recovery and preventing complications. Your dedication to patient safety, effective communication, and clinical excellence will contribute to our commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services.
Responsibilities:
Patient Monitoring and Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' conditions, including vital signs, neurological status, and pain levels.
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and interpret telemetry data, promptly recognizing any changes or abnormalities.
- Assess the patient's response to treatments and interventions, adjusting care plans as needed.
Care Planning and Implementation:
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop individualized care plans based on patient needs and medical history.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accurate dosage and compliance with medication administration guidelines.
- Perform various medical procedures, such as wound care, catheterizations, and tracheostomy care.
Post-Operative Care and Recovery:
- Provide specialized care for patients recovering from surgeries or interventions, closely monitoring their progress and managing post-operative complications.
- Implement and manage pain management plans to ensure patient comfort and well-being.
Patient and Family Education:
- Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques for a smooth transition to home or a lower level of care.
- Offer emotional support and answer questions to alleviate concerns and promote patient confidence in their recovery journey.
Emergency Response:
- Demonstrate proficiency in responding to medical emergencies, initiating life-saving interventions, and calling for immediate assistance when necessary.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, and responses to treatments in electronic health records.
- Comply with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines to ensure patient safety and maintain a safe working environment.
Working Environment: As a Progressive Care/Step-Down Registered Nurse, you will work in a hospital setting, primarily in a Progressive Care Unit or Step-Down Unit. The role may involve rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 patient care coverage. You will have the opportunity to provide specialized care to patients who require a higher level of monitoring and interventions than general medical-surgical units but are not yet stable enough for the intensive care unit. Your dedication to patient care and clinical expertise will be instrumental in helping patients on their path to recovery and wellness.
