Warehouse Operator 1 (Forklift Operator)

Location: Allentown, PA 18106

Job Type: Contract (6 Months)
Schedule: Monday – Friday (8:30 AM – 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Pay Rate: $23/hour
Interview Process: 15-minute Virtual Interview

Job Summary

The Warehouse Operator 1 (Forklift Operator) is responsible for supporting warehouse and distribution operations including order picking, material handling, inventory movement, and shipping preparation. The role requires strong forklift operating experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a physically demanding warehouse environment.

The operator will handle chemical products and laboratory supply items while following company safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations

  • Pick, pull, and prepare customer orders accurately from warehouse inventory.
  • Operate forklifts to transport materials throughout the warehouse.
  • Load and unload shipments from trucks and storage locations.
  • Ensure proper packaging and staging of products for shipment.
  • Perform inventory checks and assist with cycle counts when needed.

Order Fulfillment

  • Accurately pick items based on order requests.
  • Verify product labels, quantities, and packaging before shipping.
  • Prepare orders for distribution while maintaining product integrity.
  • Use warehouse systems or computers to process orders and track inventory.

Material Handling

  • Safely move products weighing up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Handle chemical products using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain product organization and cleanliness in storage areas.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow warehouse safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.
  • Properly operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies regarding chemical handling.
  • Report any safety hazards or equipment issues immediately.

Physical Requirements

  • Walking up to 12 miles per day in the warehouse.
  • Standing for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Repetitive bending, reaching, and carrying materials.

Workload Distribution (Order Weight)

  • 84% of orders: 5 lbs
  • 7% of orders: 5–10 lbs
  • 9% of orders: around 10 lbs

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of forklift operating experience.
  • Experience working in warehouse or distribution environments.
  • Ability to operate forklifts safely and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in order picking.
  • Basic computer knowledge for warehouse systems.
  • Steady work history with reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, or laboratory product distribution.
  • Prior experience using warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Forklift certification (preferred but not always required).

Work Environment

  • Industrial warehouse and distribution facility.
  • Exposure to chemicals requiring PPE.
  • Fast-paced order fulfillment environment.
