Job Description

As the Director, Software Engineering you will be responsible for directing software development projects and leading engineers/developers to create market-leading surgical planning tools for the diagnosis and creation of patient-specific surgical plans.  This role is ideal for someone who wishes to use their technical skills to improve the lives of patients – utilizing creative thinking and the ability to solve complex technical and clinical problems.  Your UI, graphics and algorithm expertise will be used to automate medical imaging segmentation, perform 2D and 3D anatomical registration and reconstruction, visualize and manipulate complex medical images and 3D models, and automatically create surgical plans for orthopedic surgery.

In this role, you will identify software strategies and lead the development and test of methods and protocols for managing software in a regulated environment. The ideal candidate has a background in software development, software engineering, and project management. This person should be able to work independently with little supervision and excellent organization and problem-solving skills.

This role reports to the Chief Innovation Officer.

Additional responsibilities: 

  • Own technical vision and strategy for building and scaling highly interactive and rich surgical planning tools
  • Research, prototype, iterate algorithmic solutions to medical imaging segmentation, registration and reconstruction problems for surgical planning and intra-operative guidance
  • Lead internal and external development teams to solve large and open-ended problems
  • Lead all aspects of coding and software development, including definition of software development and testing strategies using industry-leading methodologies, tools, and techniques
  • Review, plan and architect end-to-end software solutions
  • Review competitive product offerings and conduct technology exploration activities
  • Contribute to and execute customer-facing activities, like voice of customer and customer-centric design, in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to identify unmet clinical needs and distill them into product requirements
  • Build and maintain project budgets, collaborating closely with functional managers or internal partners as needed to ensure project goals are achieved
  • Become the lead contact, and establish strong relationships, with all internal cross-functional partners regarding project activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or other related programs.  MS/PhD degree preferred
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant proven experience is required.  5+ years of team leadership experience strongly preferred.
