Job Description
As the Principal Design (R&D) Engineer, you will be a contributor that is effective at all activities in the early stages of product development to meet the company’s short and long-term goals.
What you will be responsible for:
Responsible for interpreting raw feedback/ideas into valuable input and appropriately weighing such input against competing factors to ensure that development projects progress toward success
Responsible for contributing to efforts on any project that encounters design related challenges at any point
Responsible for accurately understanding mechanical design and manufacturing problems and exploring a variety of potential solutions
Responsible for supporting the protection of intellectual property (utility patents, design patents, trade secrets)
Developing mechanical devices for surgical use by appropriately applying knowledge about mechanical interactions (motion ratios, controlling degrees of freedom, binding, buckling, toggle, flex, galling, stiffness, wear, fatigue, user-interface, spring members, mechanical advantage/disadvantage) and static/dynamic loading at relevant scales (human factors, hand tools, powered tools, anatomic loading, surgical instruments).
Daily, proficient use of CAD 3D modeling software such that concepts can be synthesized from raw thoughts to representative models in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline
- 7+ years’ mechanical design and manufacturing experience of which 3+ years are product development experience bringing innovative product to market from conception to launch in a regulated industry.
- Medical device experience preferred.
