Medical Records Clerk

  • Shifts available:  8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday

Our center: 

Kankakee Terrace is a Specialized Mental Health Rehabilitation Facility (SMHRF) that has 146 beds and provides rehabilitative treatment to individuals seeking to recover from their illness.  The Administrator often says, “Our focus is recovery and rehabilitation”.

Location:  The center is 2 miles from I-57 and just down the street from Snowbarger Athletic Park (& the former Bears Training Camp).  It’s an easy commute.

Job Description

Medical Records Clerk:   officially we title this job a Medical Records Clerk, but in other centers it may be called a Medical Records Coordinator or Medical Transportation Coordinator.  

What you'll do:

  • Schedule resident medical appointments and transportation to and from appointments
  • Gathering patient information by collecting demographic information from a variety of sources; interacting with physician offices and hospitals;
  • Uses standard processes and protocols to monitor and follow up with patients, hospitals, and other parties on material status
  • Taking ownership of entire medical records retrieval process for each patient, retrieving medical records by following established internal and external procedures
  • Maintaining and documenting records retrieval process for statistical and follow-up purposes
  • Informing team by communicating availability or unavailability of patient records
  • Maintains quality results by following standards

What you'll need:

  • Certification in Health Information Management Preferred or one year experience in Medical Records
  •  Experience in a post-acute or long term care setting preferred
  • HS Diploma or equivalent required, additional degrees preferred
  • Confident with communicating via phone, email, messaging, etc.
  • Professional interactions with team, customers, and patients via phone and email 
  • Good at prioritization, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Position requires candidates to have a good level of computer proficiency, use of email, general office, and file storage software; general proficiency with PC 
  • Medical terminology is a plus
