Job Description
The advisor acts as a health and safety resource in support of various groups. The successful candidate will work closely with managers, health and safety committees and various stakeholders. He/she participates in the implementation of the occupational health and safety management system, as well as its continuous improvement and the development of prevention strategies for the groups he/she supports
Responsibilities
- Act as a resource person on OHS issues;
- Assist and advise the groups supported in implementing effective and appropriate measures, while developing OHS empowerment;
- Participate in the development and deployment of the company's OHS strategic plan;
- Participate in the implementation and improvement of the occupational health and safety management system;
- Develop, revise and implement various OHS procedures, instructions and tools;
- Develop, organize and conduct OHS trainings for managers, OHS committee members and employees;
- Support managers and OHS committees in the risk analysis process and propose preventive measures;
- Support teams in accident investigation and analysis, carrying out investigations and analysis as required;
- Participate in and assist OHS committees to carry out their mandate effectively;
- Carry out monitoring activities (audits, inspections, field visits) and propose corrective measures;
- Collaborate in defining OHS performance indicators and developing dashboards;
- Influence managers and employees to adopt practices that foster a culture of prevention in the workplace;
- Follow up with managers to ensure that procedures are applied, known and respected by all employees;
- Responsible for enforcing existing provisions and changes to health and safety laws and regulations;
- Prepare audits, monitor corrective actions and support managers (external audits);
- Prepare various reports, including statistics and trend analyses;
- Present recommendations based on data collected to reduce risks;
- Participate in daily monitoring of injury and safety reports;
- Carry out any other tasks within his/her competence.
Qualifications
- University degree in science, engineering, industrial relations or related field;
- Certificate, DESS or Masters in Health and Safety (an asset);
- Five (5) to seven (7) years' relevant OHS experience in unionized organizations and in environments where several hazards are present (e.g. machine safety, material handling, working at heights, ergonomics, biological and chemical hazards, etc.);
- Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Labor Code (an asset);
- Knowledge of Canadian aviation regulations (an asset);
- Possibility of teleworking, but regular on-site presence required;
- Strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication;
- Creativity in fulfilling mandates;
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems;
- Approach focused on teamwork;
- Result oriented
- Demonstrate a high degree of autonomy and initiative;
- Ability to several files simultaneously;
- Rigor and very good sense of organization;
- Demonstrate great adaptability in the various mandates entrusted to you;
- Oral and written fluency in French and English *
*A good knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec. The incumbent will be required to communicate and collaborate frequently in English, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders in Quebec, the rest of Canada, and internationally.
