Job Description

The incumbent will be responsible for the activities and follow-ups on files related to labor relations; negotiation, interpretation and application of collective agreements, management support, etc. He/she will represent the employer in discussions and on certain committees with union representatives, on various subjects. He/she will contribute in maintaining harmonious working environment between the employees, the managers and the Union representatives. 

  • Act as the resource person for first level managers and the human resources team for questions regarding Labour Relations;
  • Provide advisory support or act as spokesperson in the negotiation of collective agreements, letters of understanding and other negotiated agreements;
  • Provide an opinion concerning the application of the Collective Agreements (6), employment terminations, disciplinary measure, etc.;
  • Update and maintain the absenteeism file;
  • Perform various legislative research;
  • Participate in and lead various labor relations committees;
  • Facilitate, structure and participate in grievance meetings, as required;
  • Advise managers on various topics related to labor relations and the various related laws;
  • Represent the employer before the various administrative tribunals;
  • Ensure the preparation of various files such as: grievances, disciplinary meetings, arbitrations, negotiation of collective agreements;;
  • Work closely with the company’s legal representatives in conciliation, mediation and arbitration hearings, Human Rights and the Canada Labor Code complaints.

Qualifications

  • University diploma in Labour Relations or equivalent;
  • A minimum of 6-8 years of experience as a Labour Relations Advisor or a similar title;
  • Oral and written fluency in French and English *
  • Knowledge of the Canada Labor Code (an asset);
  • Leadership and proactive;
  • Client oriented and strong ability to influence others and communication skills;
  • Team spirit and creative.

*A good knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec. The incumbent will be required to communicate and collaborate frequently in English, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders in Quebec, the rest of Canada, and internationally.
