Job Description

The focus of the role will be to provide legal support to the business to help with the growth of Trainline’s key Italian and Spanish markets.   With significant business investment being put into these regions, this is an incredible opportunity to join the Trainline at a time of exciting growth.  As the principal legal point of contact for Italy and Spain, you will be instrumental to our expansion plans.

This role will primarily support Trainline’s Italian and Spanish brand, marketing, communications, SEO, PPC and product teams.   This will include providing the lead legal support on all Trainline’s big brand campaigns in those regions (such as TV adverts and high-profile promotions). You will also support the marketing teams on social campaigns and comms teams on press releases, including designing processes to help the business become more efficient as we scale. You will advise on product innovations with the product teams, including on innovative new product features designed to support customers on commutes, in their leisure time and when travelling internationally. 

As our Italian and Spanish market counsel, you will be expected to have a good understanding of all areas of commercial law with a particular focus on Italian and Spanish markets and will require a good understanding of Italian consumer law, e-commerce law, advertising and marketing law, data protection law, IP, and commercial contracts (Spanish legal knowledge is not a requirement of the role).

Within this broad role, you will also be providing legal support to Trainline’s distribution business as well as assisting with regulatory matters in Italian and Spanish markets.

This role requires the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment and to shape legal support to reflect the aims and priorities of the business.  You will need the ability communicate effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels.

Whilst you will be the principal legal point of contact for Italy and Spain, you will be part of a supportive and collaborative legal team, working closely with other lawyers with similar focuses in other regions. The overall legal team consists of lawyers’ supporting the full range of Trainline’s business operations with lawyers based in each of Trainline’s offices. 

Responsibilities 

  • Providing overall legal support to the Italian and Spanish brand, marketing, communications, SEO, PPC and product teams business teams (amongst others).
  • Specifically providing legal advice in respect of consumer law, e-commerce law, advertising and marketing law, data protection law, intellectual property law and commercial contracts.
  • Drafting, negotiating and interpreting commercial contracts, mainly in respect of Trainline acting as a customer when procuring services for the above mentioned teams.   
  • Providing legal support to Trainline’s distribution business and assisting with regulatory matters in Italian and Spanish markets.
  • Working with limited supervision and taking ownership of Italian and Spanish markets, in respect of the provision of consumer and general legal advice.

Qualifications

  • English, Scottish or Italian law qualified (Must be fluent in English and Italian)
  • 1-4 years’ PQE.  PQE to be taken as a guide – can be outside of this range.
  • Private practice or in-house experience preferred with a tech/online focus, ideally multi-jurisdictional.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced business.
  • Strong general understanding of consumer law, e-commerce law, advertising and marketing law, data protection law and commercial contracts.
  • Demonstrable team player and must be able to work cross functionally.
  • A degree of autonomy and responsibility will be expected with an ability to ‘self-start’ confidently and effectively.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, including in respect of senior management colleagues.
  • Attention to detail and ability to carry out in depth legal analysis but deliver advice in a concise, business friendly manner.
  • Effective organisational and prioritisation skills will be required to successfully manage your own workload and the business’ expectations.
