Job Description

At Trainline, SEO plays a vital role within the Growth team and there is significant opportunity for growth. We’re looking for a highly motivated and commercially minded SEO Executive  who can drive the performance and growth of Trainline in the German speaking markets.   

This person in this role is to work directly with and support the SEO leadership team to deliver increased visibility of Trainline in major search engines as well as offering cross-department support where needed. 

The role requires applicants with a passion for SEO, digital marketing, content and creative thinking who can generate and execute ideas for increasing the web presence of Europe’s largest train ticketing business. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Work with the SEO manager to create best-in-class SEO strategies, implementation plans and campaigns to meet our business objectives and KPIs to maximise ROI. 
  • Be responsible for the creation of new SEO-optimised landing pages in German across various sections of the Trainline website, using data and customer insights to drive growth at scale. 
  • Conduct thorough keyword research and use this to write and implement updates to meta titles, descriptions, H1’s and other on-page content changes to drive performance. 
  • Optimise existing landing pages to match customer search demand and demonstrate an understanding of our audience and their needs.
  • Monitor, evaluate and resolve technical bugs/errors that impact UX and search engine performance. 
  • Build relationships with colleagues across growth and the wider business to ensure an integrated approach to SEO initiatives and campaigns. 
  • Monitor competitor performance in local search engines, conduct competitor research and feedback insights into your localised SEO strategy. 
  • Monitor ranking performance for key search terms, and cross-reference data to analyse channel performance with a commercial lens. 
  • Provide support to the SEO leadership team to deliver the business objectives. 

Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience in SEO in-house, agency side or as a consultant essential.  
  • Native German speaker with excellent writing skills and a deep understanding of localisation for your target market. 
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Understand search engines and the algorithmic ranking factors; how search engines read, index and value content. 
  • Knowledge of content optimisation best practices to enhance visibility in search engines, including schema markup. 
  • Skilled Microsoft Office user, especially Excel. 
  • Experience using SEO tools such as STAT, Screaming Frog, SEMRush, Botify, Ahrefs etc. 
  • Basic knowledge of analytical tools such as Google Analytics. 
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS (desired, but not essential). 
  • Ability to devise creative SEO solutions across complex websites. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Experience with updating content via a CMS platform (desired, but not essential).  
  • Ability to manage target expectations and report on KPI’s. 
  • Positive attitude, growth mindset and can work collaboratively. 
  • Enjoys and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and creative, likes to bring ideas to the table. 
  • Analytical with a high attention to detail. 
  • Results-oriented with strong sense of ownership of projects and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
