Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Finance Manager on a 12-month fixed term contract to come in and lead our monthly accounting and reporting cycle, as well as cost control and forecasting, the ideal candidate will have great initiative and be able to consider ‘the big picture’. Brilliant prioritisation and being seen as a supportive manager will be absolutely key.

The role will lead a team of up to 7 people and report to the Group Financial Controller. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills and a dynamic leader who has the ability to work autonomously as well as closely with others.

Day-to-day financial management and control is naturally a core aspect of the role, but we are looking for someone who offers that extra bit more - someone who is able to stand back and assess the consequences of commercial changes from an accounting perspective and consider what the broader impact will be. On the back of this, you will bring ideas about what ‘good’ looks like in terms of process, and seek opportunity to automate wherever you can, supported by our data teams.

You will also be the core finance business contact for our senior leadership teams, staying close to the pulse of what is changing in the ecomm landscape, and delivering the best service to our customers.

On a typical day, you may be leading the team through the month end close, helping troubleshoot problems and identifying areas for future improvement. The next, you may be working with one of our data specialists to help automate processes or with our tax team on transfer pricing policy. Working in a rapidly growing business like ours, there is always a new challenge and opportunities to develop your skill set and turn your hand to new things.

Responsibilities

  • Management, development and mentoring of a team of 7 – including oversight, review and ultimate responsibility for the output of the team
  • Complete ownership of the monthly accounting and reporting cycle, ensuring reporting and commentary is accurate and on time
  • Presenting and explaining key results to senior leadership, including the CFO and CEO
  • Business partnering with members of the executive team to support their financial objectives
  • Supporting the FP&A team with the annual budget and three-year plan process, and quarterly reforecasting
  • Supporting the Group Reporting team with the annual and half-year account preparation, including working directly with the group auditors
  • Ownership of the annual insurance renewal process, working with both our insurance broker and our risk committee
  • Partnering with our finance data team as we migrate to a new data lake, including verifying the accuracy of the migration and building new reporting
  • Working closely with the Edinburgh and Paris teams to gain full understanding of any developments impacting your areas of responsibility
  • Taking the lead on ad hoc projects as they arise

Qualifications

  • Qualified senior accountant with broad experience (5+ years PQE)
  • Excellent team management skills to support and encourage your direct team
  • Background in financial management, internal control and management reporting
  • Proven track record in developing processes for operational change and enhancing existing processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with the ability to quickly re-prioritise and help a team to do the same
  • Naturally inquisitive and analytical mindset, be able to quickly grasp the fundamentals of complex systems and processes, explaining and presenting them to others is an easy to understand way
  • Comfortable working in a high transactional volume, multi-currency and multi­national environment

‘Nice to have ‘ Experience

  • E-commerce or big data experience
  • Proven track record of working with teams in multi-site locations
  • Previous experience business partnering outside finance
