The Town of Stony Plain is the local government authority responsible for planning and delivering municipal services in Stony Plain, a Canadian urban community of approximately 18,000 people on the traditional Indigenous lands of Treaty 6 peoples.

The Town of Stony Plain Planning & Infrastructure Department is seeking a temporary full-time Planner to play a central role in supporting the comprehensive update and rewrite of the Municipal Development Plan and Old Town Community Plan, foundational policy documents guiding future growth and development. Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Development, this position will work primarily on this project, supporting plan development, research, policy drafting, public and stakeholder engagement, and coordination with internal departments, consultants, and external agencies. The position will also support technical planning services and current planning activities. This role is ideal for a planner who enjoys policy‑based and long‑range planning work, with opportunities to collaborate across the organization, translate community and Council direction into statutory plans, and gain exposure to a diverse range of municipal planning experiences that offer variety and professional growth.

We are seeking a candidate who:

• Has a solid understanding of municipal land use planning and statutory plans
• Is eligible for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners
• Holds a valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License
• Demonstrates strong research, writing, analytical, facilitation, and communication skills
• Takes initiative, manages their time, and remains organized
• Is comfortable supporting public engagement and Council-facing work
• Communicates clearly and works effectively in a collaborative, project‑based environment
• Is able to accommodate attendance at evening and weekend meetings and events

Education and Experience:

• Post-secondary degree in Planning or related field
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in municipal land use planning
• Experience in the environmental field will be considered an asset

This is a temporary 1-year position. Based on a 35-hour work week, the salary range for this position is $85,267 - $108,472 per annum. This is an in-office position with the option to participate in the Town’s flexible work program after successful completion of the probationary period.
