Town of Clarkdale, Arizona seeks Verde River Ambassadors. Under direct supervision of the Civilian Operations Supervisor, serves as a Town representative in support of safe outdoor recreational activities, operations, and maintenance, primarily at the Verde River. Occasionally, assists the parks and recreation department with Clubhouse facilities, events, and other Clarkdale areas. This position is responsible for establishing and facilitating positive relationships and experiences with the public, local agencies and users of Verde River areas and recreational space, ensuring safety, preservation, stewardship, and proper use of these areas. This position understands public trust and models the highest standards of personal and professional integrity expected of those working in public service.

Located in central Arizona, Clarkdale is a charming, historic town, on the banks of the Verde River and at the base of Mingus Mountain. Ideally situated above the heat of the desert and below the cold of Arizona’s high country, Clarkdale enjoys a moderate year-round climate at an elevation of 3,500 feet. 

    The hourly range for this position is $13.85. This is a part-time, seasonal, “at will” position.

    Job Description

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this classification.

    • Interacts with the public, tourists, elected officials, other employees, and business professionals on a regular basis.
    • Provides information on Town services, activities, and operations pertinent to the use of the Town’s outdoor recreational operations and activities, primarily the Verde River at Clarkdale areas.
    • Patrols areas on foot and by vehicle to inspect, safeguard, preserve, maintain, and protect the areas.
    • Monitors activities of permitted outfitters.
    • Promotes and enforces safety, preservation, stewardship, and proper use of the areas.
    • May perform troubleshooting, minor maintenance, or repair to Town property or natural habitat.
    • Opens and closes facilities as needed.
    • Assists in setting up and taking down equipment and preparing facilities for various events, activities, and programs.
    • Collects fees relating to area usage.
    • Receives and responds to inquiries and complaints relating to usage of related areas.
    • Ensures proper processes of related rentals and activities.
    • Collects and disposes of solid waste from grounds, picks up litter from related areas.
    • Documents and maintains accurate records of observations and work completed.
    • Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to satisfactorily perform the job. High School graduate or GED equivalency is required.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSMust possess a valid Arizona drivers’ license at time of appointment and maintain an excellent driving record.

    Knowledge, SKILLS, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Ability to conduct basic troubleshooting and affect measured, appropriate actions.
    • Ability to use multiple technologies as daily working tools.
    • Ability to develop and maintain a courteous, helpful, and professional image in dealing with the public, elected officials, and other employees.
    • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate documents, records, and report.
    • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
    • Skill in the ability to use basic hand tools.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is regularly performed in outdoor weather conditions but may infrequently include an inside building environment. Physical abilities to traverse uneven terrain and climb hilly areas, stand, bend, kneel, stop repeatedly, walk long distances. Must be able to read technical documents, computer screens, computer print outs, business correspondence, audio visual materials, and other documents encountered in the course of work. Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds. Use of equipment or tools. Ability to wear a body worn camera. The employee may be required to work outside normally scheduled hours and/or assigned to report to a specific location for training and/or meeting attendance.
