Metroland is looking for an Online editor to oversee daily operations of the Digital Content Centre, which creates content for every Metroland site, as it expands into other markets. This is a full-time permanent position.

The successful candidate will join our fast-paced Digital Content Centre, where they will work with a team of curious and creative journalists to assign stories on a variety of topics that aim to inform, enlighten, entertain and engage our growing digital audience across Ontario while staying firmly connected to Metroland’s principles and commitment to quality journalism.
This editor will:
· Host daily story meetings to discuss, plan and assign stories that will hook readers in communities across Ontario.
· Organize and manage content planners and assignments.
· Monitor news sources and social media for story ideas and what’s trending.
· Use Google Trends, internal analytics and other tools to identify topics for coverage that will resonate and drive page views on Metroland sites.
· Provide constructive feedback to reporters to improve the quality and clarity of copy written for the web.
The ideal candidate understands that a story can take on many shapes and incorporates elements including text, photography, graphics, video, audio, social embeds and in-depth interactives. You will use those building blocks to create explainers, quick hits, lists, stories told in images, matchers and videos for multiple platforms.
Salary Range $56,041.74 to $65,476.95

Qualifications
· Degree or diploma in journalism or related field
· Previous experience in a newspaper page production environment
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SharePoint
· Well-versed in Canadian libel law and Canadian Press style
· Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline driven and demanding environment
· Strong communication skills both verbal and written
· Passion for content, new media and technology
· Proactive and collaborative
