Company Description

Metroland is looking for multiple editorial assistants — curious, creative, and energetic individuals with their thumb on the pulse of what’s trending in communities across Ontario and on social media. The successful candidates will join our fast-paced digital content team, working on a part-time or full-time basis to produce stories such as lists, quick hits, matching stories and more on an array of topics aimed at informing, enlightening, entertaining and engaging our growing digital audience.

Job Description

  • Pitch ideas and write engaging content on trending topics with an eye for good SEO.
  • Enter submitted content into content management system. 
  • Create interesting and enticing posts for social media platforms, including X.
  • Other duties, as required.

Qualifications

  • You’re an enthusiastic self-starter with a voracious appetite for news, an interest in community journalism and an eagerness to share information with a wide audience.
  • You’re able to generate unique and compelling story ideas, but also a team player who loves to collaborate and is easily assignable.
  • You’re highly organized and possess the skills to manage your time and prioritize tasks.
  • You love a deadline and excel in a fast-paced, demanding yet creative environment.
  • You ‘get’ social media and know how to use different platforms to source and share information. 
  • You understand the importance of SEO and online best practices and use these to reach a wider audience. 
  • You possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • You’re a team-oriented individual who can build professional relationships with colleagues — and the community. 
  • You can work remotely.
