The Audience Development team at Torstar is seeking a passionate data professional to support our business priorities through actionable insights and analysis. The Data Analyst – News Analytics is responsible for delivering exceptional data products and analysis that lead to revenue growth while ensuring that our customer needs remain at the heart of all our efforts. You posses a hybrid skillset of strong analytical depth coupled with business acumen and can leverage your skills to deliver accurate reporting, scorecards, analysis and recommendations to various business units. This position reports to the Head of Audience Development.    

•  Work cross functionally to ensure that the data required by our stakeholders is collected and reported effectively in order to drive successful business outcomes 
• Work closely with our key business stakeholders to understand their business problems and then find and build on appropriate data sources to produce actionable insights 
• Build & maintain key operational KPI executive dashboards, scorecards and reports 
• Assess data sources, build new features, and deploy models/reports to production  
• Leverage the data we gather to better understand how customers find content, where they consume it and how to drive them down the subscription funnel 
• Understand each stakeholders products, KPI’s, goals and challenges to bring data informed recommendations and analysis   
• Prepare presentations for senior leaders that makes data understandable and easy to act on 
• Maintain a high attention to detail ensuring that everything that comes from our team is accurate and thoroughly vetted 

• Expert skill and knowledge of SQL, Excel, Python, relational databases & data warehouses 
• Strong analytical skills including: data querying, working with and integrating first and third-party datasets, audience measurement techniques, media mix and up-lift modeling, web analytics, clickstream behaviour, predictive modeling, segmentation, topic modeling and experimental design 
• Significant experience with web analytics (i.e. Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Parse.ly, etc..)  
• Experience with data visualization tools and techniques (Tableau preferred) 
• Experience with tools and cloud platforms (e.g. AWS) 
• Analytical strategic thinking with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail 
• Ability to oversee and work simultaneously on different projects with a variety of timelines 
• Experience and working knowledge of data infrastructure, pipelines, and advanced data manipulation 
• Excellent communication skills: demonstrated ability to precisely and clearly convey results/analysis/visualization to non-technical users from various business functions 
• Highly motivated independent worker
