Job Description

Toronto Star One-Year Journalism Internship - 2023/2024

Come and join the program that gave so many of Canada’s journalists their start: the Toronto Star’s one-year internship.

This is a chance to work at Canada’s biggest newspaper.

We are accepting applications for our 2023/24 one-year internship.

This internship is for early-career journalists — college- and university-level students or recent graduates who have less than five years of experience in the profession. You must have some form of journalism experience — previous internships or roles in a range of organizations, freelance or non-traditional outlets.

Interns work with full-time staff in a challenging but supportive environment.

All Star internships are paid, contract positions.

Positions would be based out of Toronto or Ottawa.

Application should demonstrate

  • A range of story-telling skills, with a strong emphasis on news coverage
  • Proven ability to report thoroughly, write well and organize information
  • Multimedia experience, including social media, video, audio, digital producing and design and photography
  • Reporting experience outside school assignments and a demonstrated commitment to journalism as a career
  • Strong interpersonal skills

This is a notice of vacancy under Article 8 of collective agreement between Toronto Star Newspapers Limited and Unifor Local 87M. The hours of work for this position will vary according to the assignment but will all conform to a standard 35-hour work week as described under the collective agreement. This position will be located at 8 Spadina Ave in Toronto, Ontario.
