Job Description

iPolitics and QP Briefing are looking for a full-time copy editor with excellent journalistic judgment to join our editorial teams remotely, working from home anywhere in the country.

We are looking for a copy editor who is detail-oriented, collaborative and comfortable working with tight deadlines.

The successful candidate is well-versed in Canadian Press style and has experience using online content management systems such as WordPress.

Key Tasks:

  • Copyediting and posting online news stories and briefs.
  • Selecting photos and writing cutlines.
  • Working from home in a split shift, available online weekday mornings and again in the late afternoon, eastern standard time.
  • Sending out email newsletters.
  • Posting stories to the sites’ homepages.
  • Monitoring The Canadian Press wire.
  • Mentoring writers on CP style and clean copy, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in journalism or significant journalism experience.
  • Three-plus years’ experience as a copy editor.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort with online news.
  • A talent for writing compelling headlines and decks
