iPolitics is a paid subscriber-based digital news and information source, covering all political and policy activities at the federal level. QP Briefing is the provincial legislative news platform at Queen's Park. Each platform offers deep analytical coverage in real time for professionals, business leaders and other government stakeholders who closely follow the business of government at all levels.

Our subscribers expect to get the latest parliamentary news developments – and political nuances – ahead of the pack.

Our INTEL service is focused on providing in-depth parliamentary reporting and analysis for government, associations and corporate clients.

Job Description

If you have a passion for parliament, people and business – you’ve come to the right place. iPolitics is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated salesperson with a superior grasp of politics and government policy to join our business team on a full-time basis.

Your primary role will be to sell our services (including subscriptions, advertising, events and podcasts) for our federal and provincial platforms with a special focus on our INTEL (parliamentary monitoring) services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong relationships with key government relations stakeholders
  • Research potential clients for iPolitics
  • Contact potential and existing clients (by phone, e-mail and face-to-face) to explain our range of services and the value of such services to their organization
  • Negotiate sale of services (including customization) with clients
  • Handle follow-up paperwork (including insertion orders, confirmation letters, invoices) to confirm sales
  • Handle any post-sale customer service for clients in relation to their purchased services
  • Attend relevant events for networking purposes
  • Maintain records on sales database of all relevant contacts and sales discussions
  • Assist in administration of iPolitics account management and events
  • Hours may vary, but are generally weekdays 9:00 - 5:00 with some expectation of flexibility for occasional evening shifts depending on timing of networking and other events.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree, or equivalent experience (in business, commerce or politics)
  • A demonstrated passion for Canadian political and government policy news
  • Ability to work under tight deadline pressures
  • Ability to develop sales leads and to close sales
  • Presentable as the external face of the organization
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Team player
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple assignments for different clients & services
  • Demonstrate grace and calm under pressure
  • Experience at a Canadian news organization (full-time or freelance) an asset
  • Fluency or proficiency in French an asset
  • Digital literacy with competency in Microsoft operating systems and Excel spreadsheets.
