Torstar Local is looking for freelance writers who live in the Cornwall area to produce stories on a contract basis for news and community bulletin board app The CornwallLocal.
What you will do:
- Research and write five to 10 news and feature stories per week
- Topics can include police, municipal, transportation, health, community, family, real estate, business, people, sports, and events
- Attend some public meetings and events
- Conduct interviews on the phone or in-person
- Take photos when necessary
- Produce succinct, clear, and accurate copy on deadline
Who you are:
- Degree or diploma in journalism, applied arts or communications
- Razor-sharp command of English
- Efficient research, interview, photography and writing skills
- An aptitude for news judgement
- Knowledge of the region’s background
- Personable, confident and curious nature
- Passion for understanding the issues facing the community today
- A flair for story-telling
