Job Description

As Senior Software Engineer, you design, develop, optimize, and maintain the software that controls and runs TOMRA Mining sorting machines. You work on sophisticated image and data processing algorithms that ensure optimal resource productivity and create the intuitive and easy-to-use user interfaces that our sorters are famous for.

You are a member of a small and dynamic team of enthusiastic software developers. On a daily basis, you are working closely with our experienced experts in fields like mining and minerals processing, hardware development, x-ray physics and optics, and electrical and mechanical engineering.

  • You are responsible for the complete software of our sorters over all stages of the product life cycle;
  • You develop software for sensor-based sorters for the mining industry & systems for image processing and machine learning;
  • You work in interdisciplinary and international teams;
  • You visit the mine sites and processing plants of our global customers to test your software and get first-hand experience on the performance of your ideas;
  • We work together on the design of system architectures and all aspects of the software development process;
  • You provide training for our software;
  • You analyze new approaches to improve our sorters (e.g. deep learning or data mining technologies).

Qualifications

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Developing software in modern object-oriented programming languages (mainly C++);
  • Experience in modern software design processes and methodologies;
  • Interest in active collaboration in multi-national project teams;
  • Ability to efficiently communicate with different stakeholders;
  • Open to travel worldwide (1-2 times/ year); 
  • Fluent in English & German languages;
  • University degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics or experience in related fields;

Desirable skills and knowledge:

  • Image processing, pattern recognition, machine learning or deep learning;
  • Software for embedded systems;
  • Web-based applications;
  • Methods of continuous integration;
  • Agile software development methods;
  • Basic knowledge of other engineering disciplines such as electronics, construction, optics or similar.
