Job Description

***PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES RELOCATION TO SACRAMENTO, CA FOR MINIMUM 12 MONTHS.

The  Technical Sales Associate (TSA) role is a maximum duration of up to 2 years to learn about TOMRA, the food processing industry and equipment, and sales processes with the potential to move into an Area Sales Manager role. 

Primary Job Functions:

  • Learn back office duties; order processing/entry, price quotations, information input and CRM management, RFP response, product training and other related tasks
  • Hands-on involvement in application and field work
  • Attend and support customer demonstrations and applications tests and prepare/record associated documents
  • Support and develop opportunities so sales team can achieve annual revenue targets (machine sales)
  • Follow, assist, and shadow senior Area Sales Managers to potentially grow into a similar position over time
  • Develop and strengthen vertical depth of contact with customers by conducting regular visits to customer sites and meeting with engineering, operations, and maintenance personnel
  • Conduct regular visits with agents/OEM’s to agent customer base
  • Conduct regular visits with TSS Food Area Sales Managers
  • Cold Call leads via phone, email, or direct contact and report/record
  • Generate competitor information and record it in the TSS Food database
  • Research market information about new applications and assist ASMs in preparation of presentations to the Sales Director
  • Create sales presentation for applications, equipment, customers, company, etc.
  • Be present and assist in new machine startups
  • Communicate service / warranty issues
  • Attend trade shows
  • Follow up on all customer questions regarding their products and support issues
  • Review customer layouts
  • Be a product technical resource to our customers and TSS Food staff
  • Ensure all relevant proposals, order confirmations, and CRM information are maintained in accordance with company policies
  • Foster and maintain excellent relations with Area Sales Managers and customers
  • Update CRM database for specific territories
  • Manage and create sales documentation after a customer visit
  • Prepare and assist creation of proposal generation to territory customers meeting TSS Food policy on pricing and terms directly or through TSS Food resources
  • Ensure regular visits made to customers are planned in a cost effective manner
  • Keeps Area Sales Managers informed of any issues which impact sales effectiveness and customer relations
  • Be technically proficient in all products sold
  • Offer customers solutions to their problems rather than standalone products
  • Report competitor sales and product activities to Area Sales Managers and Director
  • Technical skills: ability to assess and analyze customer data and requirements
  • Practical thinker: ability to assist team with demonstrations in a well thought out, structured manner; rational decision making
  • Customer Service: strong communication abilities, people person, ability to relate to an audience
  • Team work, ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external team members
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Must be able to learn quickly and think on one’s feet
  • Be familiar with basic electrical principles
  • Intermediate/advanced computing knowledge of MS Excel, basic MS Suites, internet software and computer hardware
  • Process improvement and development

Qualifications

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrate a can-do attitude and willingness to do what it takes to secure business opportunities
  • High tolerance for working in fast paced and occasionally stressful conditions
  • Understanding of the food processing industry is a significant plus
  • Technical background desired but not required
  • Highly personable, critical thinker, confident, negotiation, sense of urgency, task oriented, driven, extrovert

Work Environment:

  • Office, food processing plants and farms
  • Role will be stationed for a minimum of 12 months training at TOMRA West Sacramento, CA facility after which will potentially require relocation to remote locations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Job requires frequent bending, kneeling and standing
  • Lifting of up to 80 lbs.
  • Working in confined spaces
  • Ability to drive for long distances
  • Ability to distinguish between the full range of colors in the color spectrum
  • No major food allergies that would impede on the job requirements
  • Work extended hours when required

Education:

  • B.S. in Business, Economics, Agricultural, Engineering preferred

Travel:

  • Ability to travel domestically up to 50% and international occasionally

Driving:

  • Ability to drive without restrictions
