A leading healthcare provider in Lagos, Nigeria, needs an Orthopaedic Consultant.

Job Description

The Orthopedics Consultant is responsible for providing expert orthopaedic care, including the diagnosis, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal conditions.

He/She must have a strong background in orthopaedic surgery, excellent clinical skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care in a multidisciplinary setting.

The Consultant will report to the Head of the Orthopedics Department. He/She will be responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including fractures, joint disorders, spinal deformities, and sports injuries, as well as performing orthopaedic surgeries, such as joint replacements, arthroscopic procedures, and trauma surgeries, with a focus on precision and patient safety.

Beyond clinical care, the Orthopaedics Consultant will also be responsible for:

Patient Management:

  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative care to patients, ensuring optimal recovery and outcomes.
  • Educate patients and their families on treatment options, surgical procedures, and rehabilitation plans.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physiotherapists, radiologists, and anesthesiologists, to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews to discuss complex cases and treatment strategies.

Teaching and Mentorship:

  • Supervise and train orthopaedic residents, interns, and medical students.
  • Conduct educational sessions for hospital staff on orthopaedic procedures, advancements, and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the department.

Quality Assurance and Research:

  • Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Engage in clinical research and contribute to the advancement of orthopaedic knowledge and practices.

Administrative Duties:

  • Participate in departmental meetings, strategic planning, and policy development.
  • Assist in the procurement and maintenance of orthopaedic equipment and supplies.
  • Contribute to the hospital’s goals of delivering exceptional healthcare services.

Qualifications

  1. Medical degree (MBBS/DO) from a recognized institution.
  2. Fellowship or equivalent qualification in Orthopedics from a recognized board (e.g., West African College of Surgeons, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, or international equivalent).
  3. Minimum of 5 years of post-fellowship experience in orthopaedic surgery, preferably in a large hospital setting.
  4. Valid medical license to practice in Nigeria.
  5. Proven expertise in performing complex orthopedic surgeries and managing trauma cases.
