Job Description

As a Senior Operational Risk Manager, you will be responsible for providing the 1st Line business areas with appropriate training, support, assistance and advice in order to empower effective risk management. The Team also conduct oversight of the business areas in order to determine the level of risk management maturity and if applicable, to identify more targeted areas of further support required. This oversight is predominantly focused across operational, conduct and compliance risk types. The Team support risk reporting through established governance routes.

Initially the role will consist of a secondment to Together’s transformation programme of work to modernise and develop a harmonised, automated and robustly controlled automated process and control infrastructure.

As a Senior Operational Risk Manager, we are looking for someone to:

  • Supporting and advising on process risk identification within the ‘transformation’ process designs.
  • Supporting and advising on business risk identification as a result of ‘transformation’ initiatives.
  • Supporting and advising on appropriate and effective control types, coverage and design with respect to process risks identified through ‘transformation’
  • Acting as a bridge of knowledge and insight from the Nexus project to the central First Line Risk Function.
  • Supporting business functions to integrate transformation risk outputs onto functional RCSAs and associated risk management.

Upon completion of the secondment, the role is proposed to revert to a functional Risk Business Partner, as part of the central First Line Risk Team. This will include key responsibilities such as:

  • Support, train, challenge and oversight of business:
    • RCSAs
    • Incident (including triage and escalation)
    • Key risk indicators (including annual reviews)
  • Build close working relationships with Heads of Department and key personnel to design controls that are effective, scalable and repeatable
  • Support the wider business transformation program in the design and development of effective risk controls
  • Triage proposed business risk acceptances as a first line challenge and advisory support.
  • Conduct risk based control assessments against design and performance.
  • Providing regular feedback and reporting of the maturity and risk profile of business areas.
  • Support with the continual development of the 1st Line Risk operating model
  • Support with the conducting of periodic ‘risk assessments’ in order to inform assurance planning.

Qualifications

Essential: 

  • Has designed effective controls for regulated processes
  • Expertise in process risk identification and supporting control design/engineering to effectively mitigate identified risks in an automated environment.
  • Has experience of regulated mortgage lending / Commercial Lending
  • Understands Operational challenges and how to support this from a first line risk perspective
  • Has worked within a three lines of defence model
  • Understanding of risk management and how to effectively document and review RSCAs, incidents, risk metrics etc.
  • Has applied experience in business continuity management and operational resilience.
  • Has experience in using risk management system solutions.
  • Has experience practicing risk against an established enterprise risk management framework.

Desirable:

  • Has experience in ‘transformation’ programmes (preferable).
