Job Description

Ready to lead the platform that powers Tipico’s data game?

As the central captain, the Team Lead Data Platform & Infrastructure (m/f/x) is accountable for leading and developing the core data platform and infrastructure that fuels Tipico’s enterprise‑wide data landscape. You ensure the platform stays scalable, reliable, and secure — the backbone for every analytical play, report, and data‑driven operation.

You manage, coach, and mentor a squad of Data DevOps Engineers, driving automation, deployment, observability, and maintenance of our platform services. And by working closely with Data Engineering, Analytics, and Enterprise Infrastructure, you keep every component aligned, high‑performing, and ready to support the Data Tribe’s mission.

If you’re ready to keep the platform stable at high speed, build systems that scale, and lead a team that delivers under pressure — you’re ready for this arena.

Your playing field:

  • You will lead the Data DevOps team in designing and developing the infrastructure that powers our data platform.

  • You will ensure high performance and responsiveness across data services for data engineering, data science, BI, analytics, and CRM.

  • You will ensure data services are available and on time for all tools and systems that rely on them.

  • You will work with Data Project Managers on prioritisation, sprint planning, and delivery communication.

  • You will manage cloud infrastructure and third‑party tooling, forecasting and controlling the associated budget.

  • You will research and adopt new technologies and best practices to improve scalability, efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness.

  • You will drive technology alignment and harmonisation across the data warehouse, real‑time streams, data science tooling, BI, and operational tooling.

  • You will contribute to the Data Tribe’s vision and strategy, assisting in recruiting the best talent for the data teams.

Qualifications

Which skills you should bring to the pitch

  • Education. Master’s degree in Business, IT, or a related field.

  • Experience. 3+ years working with large‑scale Data Platforms, Data Warehouses, or BI systems, with proven success leading major data projects and high‑performing engineering teams.

  • Engineering Excellence. You bring strong coding skills in Python and JVM-based languages (Groovy, Java, Scala) and solid system administration experience on Linux (and Windows when needed), including Bash scripting.

  • Cloud & Infrastructure Pro. You’re confident managing AWS environments — from compute (EC2, ECS, EMR, Lambda) to access management (IAM, SSO, IDP). Terraform and the AWS API are part of your daily toolkit.

  • Data Platform Specialist. You know your way around AWS data stores like Redshift, Aurora, S3, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, and Elasticsearch — and can set them up, troubleshoot issues, and advise on their best use.

  • Modern DevOps Mindset. You’re hands‑on with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker, EKS, ECS, and ECR, and you’re familiar with artefact management (Nexus).

  • CI/CD Ready. You understand modern delivery pipelines and version control, including Jenkins and Git-based workflows.

  • Architecture Aware. You’re comfortable with service architectures — REST APIs, message queues, pub/sub systems, and SFTP — and how they connect within a broader ecosystem.

  • Observability. You know logging and monitoring tools like the ELK Stack, Grafana, or Datadog, keeping the platform visible and diagnosable.
