Job Description

Timmons Group is currently accepting applications for a GIS Technical Analyst I to join our GIS Services Group in Richmond, VA. The Technical Analyst I will be responsible for providing mapping and GIS related technical and support services to agency departments. A Technical Analyst I will develop and maintain automated mapping data and preform data. The ideal candidate will have a passion for geography, cartography, and data analysis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start in the GIS field.

This role will require a candidate to work on-site at a client location in Richmond and may require some field work in addition to office work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintains GIS databases, data sets and mapping system content
  • Applies GIS technology to perform data entry and manipulation, produce documentation, perform minimal spatial analysis, and produce reports
  • Provides ongoing operational support for GIS and GIS users
  • Applies software such as CAD, database, spreadsheet, word processing, communications, graphics and web publishing software to the production and delivery of mapping, and GIS-related products
  • Provides technical assistance to users
  • Participates in interdepartmental teams, committees and participate in GIS software design projects
  • Collects, inputs, edits, verifies, manipulates, models, and analyzes spatial data in the geographic information system
  • Documents data entry and related procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills and Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training.
  • Ideal candidates will have at least one year of related work experience preferred
  • Must have the ability to prioritize multiple projects from numerous departments.
  • Must have background in GIS/Mapping software, computer aided drafting software, related third party mapping, GIS software applications, database management systems software and windows-based operating systems.
  • Good oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate technical information, ability to research, interpret and summarize data.
  • Take initiative to solve problems and work through solutions
  • Ability to travel to various locations within the state
