Job Description

The role is responsible to assist with the maintenance of the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene systems and is responsible for legal compliance monitoring and reporting.

The focus areas for this role will be to manage and co-ordinate the following:

  • Assist with ensuring that legal requirements, group standards and policies are adhered to:
  • Ensure adherence to legal and corporate standards through monitoring and reporting
  • Maintain VOHE strategies and Systems, Measure compliance to Section 11 and 12 of the Mine Health and Safety Act:
  • Prepare, sample and report compliance to the Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene Regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Monitor Airborne pollutant, air temperature, ventilation, noise, illumination and water
  • Analyse the requirements of the Act and Regulations and keep a document describing occupation hygiene practice at the mine, ensuring that all reasonably practicable means or control of occupational hygiene exposure Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene programmes are properly administered
  • Conduct daily VOHE inspections and record findings through providing information and advice on VOHE Matters related to specific areas and sections as well as advise on changes to plans, schedules, procedures and standards.
  • Manage resources and assets
  • Assist in VOHE planning

Qualifications

  • Intermediate certificate as offered by the Mineral Council
  • Advance Certificate in Mine Environmental Control

Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevant experience in the Mining environment
  • Must have a good safety record
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Knowledge of the relevant Occupational Health legislation
  • Knowledge of occupational hygiene monitoring and sampling

Additional Information

  • Experience in an underground coal mine
  • Computer Literate (Micro Station/ VENT SIM)
  • Experience in VOHE department and underground Colliery mine
  • Code 8 drivers License
  • Have sound knowledge of safety systems and standards and high regard for safety, regulations and standards
