Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.

Job Description

As the Training Officer, you will be responsible for executing training plans, facilitating learning and development interventions and the development of Unit Standards based training material that complies with appropriate legislations.  

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Conduct training and development needs analysis on an annual and ad hoc basis to establish the nature, complexity, and priority of training needs of employees in these departments
  • Assist Learning & Development Manager with analysis of new or revised training and development interventions required by strategic and operational plans
  • Direct responsibility of effectively managing the record keeping of learning and development systems, both physical and electronically.
  • Develop and co-ordinate learner training programme as well as mentor and coach learners as required
  • Facilitate Learning and Development interventions and manage the induction programme and process for the colliery employees as well as contractors.
  • Maintaining up-to date and accurate engineering training matrixes

This role is in the Human Resource Department and is at a C4 level reporting to the Training Manager.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (NQF 4)
  • Engineering related Trade Certificate
  • Registered as an Assessor and Moderator
  • Registered as a Facilitator
  • Diploma in OD-ETDP or HR related Diploma is required with Bachelor’s Degree as an advantage
  • N4 in Engineering would be advantageous

Experience:

  • Extensive experience as a Training personnel for workshops, plant, and underground engineering
  • At least 5 years relevant experience as an artisan
  • Experienced with learnership management
  • Specialist technical knowledge in engineering
  • Understanding of the coal mining industry
  • Proficient knowledge of the audit processes related to the Mining Charter and BBBEE

Additional Information

  • Valid Driver’s licence
  • Computer literacy (MS Office and Excell)
  • SAP experience – advantageous
  • Auditing skills (ISO 9001:2015)
