Thungela Resources [Thungela means “to ignite” in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production. It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.
Job Description
- Ensure health and safety by adhering to all legislative requirements, procedures, standards and guidelines
- Lead, control and motivate team to ensure that all Safety, Health, Environmental and Production targets are achieved
- Communicate all legal and operational policies, procedures, standards and guidelines relevant to area of responsibility and ensure they are implemented and followed
- Ensure effective cost control and that costs are allocated effectively and that the various sections stay within budget
- Maintain section infrastructure to complement the Operational value chain from coal face to plant
- Effective People management, ensuring that roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developed
- Meeting production targets with strict adherence to maintenance and production schedules
- Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with other stakeholders to complement the operational value chain
This role is in the Mining department at a Band 6 level and reports to the Section Manager.
Qualifications
- B Tech/ BSC in Mining Engineering (BSc) (NQF Level7)
- Intermediate Management Developmental Programme or equivalent
- In Possession of Mine Overseer or Mine Managers’ Certificate of Competency
- Computer literate: MS Office
- Valid driver’s license
- Fiery Mine Blasting Ticket/ Rock Breaking qualification for Fiery Mines
Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in an Underground Coal Mine environment
- At least 2 years' experience as an appointed Shift Boss
- At least 2 years’ acting experience as Mine Overseer
Additional Information
- Knowledge of mine planning principles and processes
- Knowledge of Thermal Coal core value chain and Operational Codes of Practices and Procedures
