Join us as an Assistant Accountant on a fixed term contract to support the Accountant and Financial Controller with financial and performance reporting, planning, forecasting and other compliances as per requirements.

Thungela Resources [Thungela means “to ignite” in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production.  It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.

Job Description

As the Assistant Accountant you will reconcile ledger balance sheet accounts, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all recons.

More of your responsibilities will include:

  • Accurate preparation of general accounting, payroll, cost and accrual journals and the reallocation of incorrect postings
  • Supporting the accurate preparations and submission of Minerals Council of SA and DMRE
  • Assisting the Accountant with month-end reporting, ensuring the cost completeness is in line with requirements
  • Assisting the Accountant with forecasting and budgeting processes
  • Preparations of reconciliations
  • Populating the Cost Performance Management template and supporting the process of cost reviews
  • Managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, understand and deliver on their operational needs, and identify and resolve issues timeously

Qualifications

  • Diploma/ Degree in Accounting or Financial discipline (NQF 6/7)

Experience & Knowledge

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Finance environment
  • SAP experience is essential

Additional Information

  • Proficient knowledge of SAP, Ramesys and HFM
  • Emerging knowledge of data analysis and reporting techniques, processes, and tools
  • International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Income tax act
