Company Description
Thomas County is seeking to hire a Building Maintenance and Custodial Director. This position, under the direction of the County Commissioners, will oversee custodial staff and coordinate the installation, maintenance, and repair work in all county buildings. The Director will regularly inspect work sites, perform necessary repairs, maintain inventory, and arrange for contractors to handle non-routine maintenance.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Inspect and maintain all county buildings, ensuring proper upkeep.
- Supervise custodial staff, hire/train as needed, and coordinate work schedules.
- Perform manual repairs (locks, windows, general maintenance) and oversee contracted services.
- Manage alarm systems, fire extinguishers, pest control, landscaping, and safety compliance.
- Develop maintenance schedules, track repairs, and report concerns to the County Commissioners.
- Maintain inventory, ensure proper equipment storage, and oversee budgeting.
Conduct preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and compliance with health
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Associate degree in a relevant field OR 5+ years of supervisory experience in maintenance or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of building trades, electrical/HVAC systems, and safety regulations.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and communication tools.
- Must be physically capable of performing hands-on maintenance work and available for being called in when needed.
