Under the direction of the Downtown Tasting Room Manager, the Estate Wine Guide is responsible for ensuring that each guest enjoys a personalized and engaging tasting experience that highlights the estate’s wines and unique regional history. This role works closely with the chef team, tasting room staff, and management to deliver an elevated food and wine experience while supporting sales, Wine Society growth, and operational excellence.

This is a full-time position based at the JUSTIN Estate (11680 Chimney Rock Road, Paso Robles, CA 93446). The normal work shift is 5 days/week, 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM. We are seeking an individual who is willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Job Description

Guest Experience & Education

  • Greet and seat guests, providing a warm and professional welcome.
  • Conduct engaging, educational, and memorable wine tastings, explaining wine characteristics, origins, and pairing recommendations.
  • Serve and support guests in the dining room, working closely with the chef team to enhance the food and wine experience.
  • Provide property tours as needed
  • Resolve guest concerns or complaints with tact and escalate to a supervisor or manager when necessary.
  • Participate in the JUSTIN Educational Training program and stay informed on new releases, library wines, viticulture, and winemaking techniques.

Tasting Room Sales

  • Assist in achieving financial goals, including tasting room and Wine Society Lounge wine sales, merchandise and food sales, property tour signups, and Wine Society sign-ups.
  • Monitor inventory levels and restock as needed, keeping supervisors informed of low stock.
  • Assist in developing a targeted list of 50,000 non-club members for marketing purposes, generating innovative strategies to collect email addresses effectively.

Operational Support & Cleanliness

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all areas:
    • Tasting Room: Keep bar areas clear of unnecessary items such as POS materials, flyers, etc. Maintain clean and tidy areas including merchandise tables.
    • Tasting Room Office: Maintain the shared desk area tidy and accessible for all employees as needed.
    • Garage: Ensure the space is clean, free of unnecessary items, and that all back stock—shopping bags, merchandise, POS materials, etc.—is organized and easily accessible for staff.
    • Warehouse: Regularly organize wine pallets, coordinating with a forklift-certified employee to ensure inventory is neat, orderly, and readily accessible.
  • Complete closing duties, including preparing guest checks, allocating pooled gratuities, cleaning and resetting the dining room, and completing closing side work.
  • Attend all monthly and weekly Tasting Room Manager meetings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a restaurant, tasting room, or wine service environment required
    • Strong preference for candidates with serving, waitstaff, table management, or wine guide experience
    • Retail sales experience preferred (minimum two years)
  • Strong understanding of food and wine, including origins, production, and pairing principles
  • Food Handler’s Card and RBS Certification required
  • Flexible availability, including the ability to work weekends and holidays required
  • Ability to work quickly in a high-paced, physically and mentally demanding environment
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to engage guests at all levels
  • Passion for wine and the wine industry
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent customer service and build relationships
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in English
  • Must be able to perform basic calculations such as adding, subtracting and dividing
  • Must complete the JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery education program upon hire
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Pay Range: $17.00 - $20.00 an hour, plus tips. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
