Job Description

Overview: 

The Dry Goods Clerk plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow receiving the finished goods physically and systematically. This document outlines the standard work procedures for the Dry Goods Clerk to follow but is not limited to maintaining efficiency, accuracy, and safety in Shipping department.

Here's what you'll do:

​​I. Pre-Shipment Tasks: 

​1. Receive and Review Orders: 

  • ​Check incoming orders against purchase orders for accuracy. 
  • ​Verify quantities, items, and shipping instructions. 
  • ​Report any discrepancies or issues to the Warehouse Manager. 

​2. Prepare Shipping Documents

  • ​Generate shipping labels, packing slips, and any necessary customs documentation. 
  • ​Ensure all required information is accurate and complete. 

​3. Inspect and Prepare Products: 

  • ​Examine products for damage or defects. 
  • ​Properly pack items using appropriate packaging materials. 
  • ​Apply any required labeling or special handling instructions. 

II. Loading and Shipping: 

​4. Schedule Shipments: 

  • ​Coordinate with carriers or logistics providers to schedule pickups or deliveries. 
  • ​Ensure shipments are scheduled to meet deadlines and customer expectations. 

​5. Loading and Staging: 

  • ​Organize products for efficient loading onto trucks. 
  • ​Safely operate forklifts or other equipment for loading. 
  • ​Double-check that the right items are loaded onto the correct trucks. 

6. Shipping Verification

  • ​Cross-check shipping documents against the loaded products. 
  • ​Verify that all required paperwork accompanies the shipment. 
  • ​Sign off on the shipping documents as needed. 

​III. Receiving Tasks: 

  • ​Receive Incoming Shipments: 

  • ​Unload and inspect incoming shipments. 
  • ​Record received items in the inventory system. 
  • ​Report any discrepancies or damages immediately. 

​8. Quality Checks: 

  • Perform quality checks on received items according to company standards. 
  • ​Flag any quality issues for further inspection or quarantine. 

​9. Stock Placement: 

  • ​Properly store received items in designated storage areas. 
  • ​Ensure FIFO (First-In-First-Out) principles are followed for inventory rotation. 

​IV. Documentation and Record-Keeping: 

​10. Document Management: 

  • ​Maintain organized and accurate records of all shipping and receiving activities. 
  • ​Digitally file all shipping and receiving documents for easy retrieval. 

​11. Reporting: 

  • ​Provide regular reports to the Warehouse Manager regarding shipping and receiving performance, issues, and improvements. 

12. Safety Procedures: 

  • ​Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols while handling materials and equipment. 
  • Report any safety concerns or incidents immediately. 

​13. Compliance: 

  • ​Ensure all shipping and receiving activities comply with relevant regulations and standards, including customs and international shipping requirements. 

​V. Continuous Improvement: 

​14. Process Optimization: 

  • ​Continuously look for ways to streamline shipping and receiving processes and reduce errors. 
  • ​Suggest improvements to the Warehouse Manager and be open to feedback. 

Qualifications

Here's what you'll bring to the table:

  • ​​High school diploma or GED.  
  • ​At least 1 to 2 years of experience in a production environment preferred. 
  • ​The position requires precision and is very detail oriented. 
  • ​Speak, read, and write in the English language, bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred. 
  • ​Ability to interpret instructions furnished in oral and written form. 
  • ​Good problem-solving skills and communication.  
  • ​Must have advanced computer skills; experience required using Microsoft Windows (i.e. Excel and Word). 
  • ​Basic mathematical skills required. Must understand ratios, minimums and maximums and percentages. 
  • ​Ability to multi-task, be comfortable in a fast-paced work setting, be able to work under pressure and meet time constraints. 
  • ​Handle multiple projects simultaneously and independently with minimal supervision. 
  • ​Effectively work well with a diverse group of people with different personalities to promote a teamwork environment. 
  • ​Requires onsite collaboration with others. 
  • ​Requires in-person interaction with different groups of people. 

Pay Rate: $20.00 an hour
