Job Description

As our Accountant, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving the financial success of the Transam New Zealand agency. You’ll take ownership of a diverse range of critical processes—from preparing accurate statutory submissions and insightful financial reports to shaping budgets and coordinating audits. You’ll lead the agency’s finance functions with confidence, championing best practices and upholding the highest standards of efficiency, compliance, and integrity across all operations.

What you will be doing:

  • Crafting clear, accurate monthly profit and loss statements and balance sheet reports to keep the business on track
  • Leading tax reporting to ensure compliance and timely submissions
  • Collaborating on goal setting, defining KPIs, and driving performance improvements across the finance team
  • Preparing reconciliations, detailed overhead reporting, and journal entries with precision
  • Developing and championing best practices that boost productivity and operational excellence
  • Assisting with the preparation of year-end accounts and statutory financial statements
  • Driving the annual budgeting process, helping shape the agency’s financial roadmap
  • Responding to financial queries by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting critical data
  • Conducting financial audits and preparing comprehensive reports with actionable recommendations
  • Managing the preparation and submission of tax returns and statutory filings
  • Ensuring the general ledger is accurate, complete, and up to date
  • Rolling up your sleeves for other finance-related projects as needed

Qualifications

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting that sets a strong foundation
  • CPA or Chartered Accountant qualification (or you’re well on your way to earning it)
  • Hands-on experience driving process improvements that make a real impact
  • Sharp negotiation skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across the business
  • A keen eye for detail with a natural curiosity to dig deeper into data and solve problems
  • A dedicated, flexible team player who’s ready to jump in wherever needed
  • A track record of meeting deadlines and thriving under time pressures
    A proactive mindset when it comes to managing debtors and cash flow
  • Advanced computer skills, especially in Excel and accounting systems—experience with Oracle or Cargowise is a plus
  • Strong commercial and business acumen to see the bigger picture
  • Up-to-date knowledge of accounting principles, legislation, and compliance requirements
  • Excellent analytical skills to navigate and interpret large data sets
  • Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A motivated, outgoing personality that contributes to a positive team culture
  • Solid understanding of current rules and regulations in the financial landscape
  • The ability to partner with stakeholders across departments and countries seamlessly
  • A sharp focus on financial reporting and delivering insights that drive decisions

This is a full-time permanent role based in our Parnell office. You will have the right to live and work in New Zealand or Australia at the time of applying. The successful candidate may be subject to undergo a Police Check and/or Pre-Employment Drug Test.
