Job Description

Coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts and supplies for production.

  • Reviews requisitions.
  • Provides required information for the approval of chemicals to be used in the plant.
  • Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability and delivery schedule.
  • Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items.
  • Determines method or procurement, such as direct purchase or bid.
  • Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.
  • Reviews bid proposals within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Maintains manual or computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance and inventories.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
  • Receive ordered goods and prepare paperwork for approval by management.
  • May expedite delivery of goods.
  • Compiles information from periodicals, catalogs and other sources to keep informed on price trends and manufacturing processes.
  • Confers with vendors and analyzes vendors operations to determine factors that affect prices.
  • Prepares reports, charts and graphs of findings.
  • Evaluates findings and makes recommendations to management regarding feasibility of manufacturing or buying needed products.
  • Responsible to drive a company vehicle to pick up parts or supplies needed for the shop and/or plant that are out of stock. Parts and supplies are to be picked up from different stores depending where the item was ordered from.
  • May recommend use of alternative parts, materials or manufacturing methods to reduce costs.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • FOOD SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: The employee shall take all reasonable measures and precautions to ensure compliance with 21CFR 110.
  • Must be able to use and understand the Microsoft Office Suite and have a general working knowledge of computers and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, MSDS, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must have a Class C Driver License with an acceptable driving record.

As a member of the production team, this employee will be working in a manufacturing environment and therefore, may occasionally be exposed to fumes, reagents and solvents, or airborne particles. This environment may also be noisy, hot or cold. The ability to stand for long periods of time is essential. Safety glasses, hearing protection and other personal protective equipment must be worn as specified in designated areas.
