As we grow our team at JUSTIN, we are looking for an Assistant Winemaker – Bottling. This position will lead bottling preparation, as well as oversee quality control and supply chain management. The Assistant Winemaker – Bottling manages day-to-day Bottling Warehouse operations while ensuring quality standards are met and maintained. This person will report directly to the Bottling Operations, Winemaker and working closely with the Bottling Supervisor to assist with facility planning, refinement of bottling protocols, processing, workflow planning. The Assistant Winemaker drives company initiatives through team collaboration and strong leadership.

Job Description

  • Responsible for day-to-day Bottling Warehouse needs
  • Prepares wine for bottling within tight specifications
  • Ensures that all Packaging and Wine Preparation aligns with the bottling schedule year to year
  • Oversees quality control of packaging materials and finished goods
  • Responsible for inventory management of receiving packaging materials and shipping finished goods
  • Oversees new vendor/material scheduling verification process while partnering with our Global Sourcing Team
  • Manages, trains, and develops bottling support staff
  • Key stakeholder for management of weekly/monthly/yearly bottling schedules under the direction of the Bottling Operations, Winemaker
  • Communicates with Bottling Supervisor about materials on-hand and on-order, to keep a feasible and efficient weekly/monthly/yearly production plan
  • Communicates with Production Team to ensure product transfers/production meet expected production/bottling schedules
  • Participates in blend trials, tasting and evaluating wines
  • Oversees Food Safety, GMP’s, and places emphasis on employee safety
  • Collaborates across the business unit as necessary (Safety, Hospitality, Maintenance, Finance, etc.)
  • Champion WOW (Way of Work), the company's continuous improvement program

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Viticulture and Enology, Fermentation Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of wine production experience, at least 2 years of bottling operations experience
  • Ability to handle high-volume production levels for a luxury brand
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to establish direction and coach others
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, SharePoint) and familiarity with winemaking software such as Crafted, InnoVint, Vintrace, Winemaker data base
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines; strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Availability to work a wide range of hours, including overtime, weekend, nights, holidays, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of all winemaking equipment, processes, and procedures within the winery
  • Working knowledge of modern sanitation protocols and ability to identify issues and implement ideas to improve current sanitation practices
  • Desire to learn and apply the Wonderful Way Values to our everyday processes

Pay Range: $70,000 - $75,000 base salary and may include a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
