Job Description

With a strong commitment to technological innovation and continuous improvement, we strive to stay ahead of the competition.  As our Operations Improvement Manager, you will play a crucial role in driving operational performance and shaping our future success.

You will be responsible for 3 key areas:

Process Improvement & Projects:

  • Drive operational performance across NPDL by focusing on improving the end-to-end processes, as well as the implementation of key projects across Scheduling, Vessel Planning, DG, Port Operations, Equipment and Container Depots.
  • Lead improvement projects across the wider Operations team, including physical/capacity changes, supplier related/assets, as well as technology and systems related initiatives. 
  • Determine process improvement opportunities across NPDL Operations by working closely with the various teams and identifying non-performance areas.
  • Own and maintain the performance improvement pipeline, ensuring new opportunities are properly managed/gated.
  • Determine opportunities for cost-benefit analysis, including one-off implementation and/or ongoing operational costs, and implementation costs such as resourcing and technology.
  • Drive quarterly process improvement cycles across the Operations teams, focusing on identifying new opportunities to improve efficiency and drive costs down.
  • Drive process improvement implementation in line with agreed methodologies.
  • Provide post-implementation performance reporting.

Performance Reporting & KPIs:

  • Build robust reporting processes across the various Operations teams, ensuring critical KPI’s are consistently reported. 
  • Own and drive operational performance dashboards, identifying key areas that require additional focus.
  • Lead the definition and implementation of Operations KPI’s and targets in order to drive continuous improvement effort.
  • Regular reporting of performance to individual teams, as well as roll-up reporting to NPDL senior leaders, identifying key areas of improvement and focus.
  • Drive performance analytics and determine related improvement opportunities across the various NPDL Operations teams.

Asset Optimization:

  • Focus on optimizing the value of our critical/high value assets, by ensuring comprehensive M&R planning and robust capital investment plans are in place to drive procurement effort.
  • Overall responsibility for the management of critical/high value assets, including (but not limited to) Container Handlers, Forklifts, Spreaders, Cranes, etc.
  • Own the NPDL wide M&R, Replacement, Disposal and Procurement plans associated with high value assets.
  • Ensure group wide compliance to agreed M&R plans, with the objective of maximizing the life of our assets.
  • Monitor industry-wide improvements in technology to improve overall efficiencies across all high value asset categories.

This role is full time permanent role which will be based in Parnell, and we are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and thrive in a dynamic team environment.  You will be ready to tackle new challenges and possess the appropriate methodologies to accomplish projects and tasks efficiently. You will relish in the idea of developing the targeted reporting for our performance and KPIs.

Qualifications

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

  • At least 5 years of operational experience across logistics operations.
  • Highly results oriented, ready to take challenges and able to work under pressure.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, able to identify underlying trends, patterns, root causes and areas for improvement.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, driving use of structured methodologies.
  • Strong ability to influence key stakeholders in a positive way.
  • High level of integrity and work ethics.
  • Strong communication skills ensuring clear, direct and appropriate communication at multiple organizational levels and geographies.
  • Ability to travel across the various Pacific Islands, as well as to work extended hours as required, including sometimes weekends and public holidays.
  • Advanced use of MS Excel and previous experience with Power BI would be advantageous.
