Job Description

Overview:

The Controls & Automation Manager reports to the Director, Automation and Controls.  The person in this role has high visibility to organization leadership due to support for CA, TX, NJ, and Mexico.  The role is an exciting opportunity to lead team members, create, sustain and continuously improve automation systems.  Automation sustainability will be at the core of this dynamic and fast paced opportunity.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Manage and maintain systems that support automation infrastructure across multiple manufacturing operations
  • Determine staffing coverage and workflow for support of operations and projects by technical staff
  • Provide coaching and developmental/training recommendations for Automation and Controls team members
  • Maintain close communication with Operations leadership regarding the development and support of team members
  • Responsible for leading the management of costs within the automation department
  • Liaison with other critical work groups in support of Automation, including Maintenance/Reliability, Engineering, Sales, QC, IT, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Operations
  • Make recommendations for upgrades to existing systems/processes, with data, evidence and background information included
  • Supervise the creation of various diagrams, flowcharts and models that illustrate the type of code needed as part of automation standards
  • Document each aspect of a system or application as a reference for future upgrades and maintenance

Qualifications

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in Automation infrastructure support
  • Experienced in automation system integration and project management
  • Detailed oriented, highly organized, and committed to superior quality
  • Experience designing, testing and developing control systems to meet business objectives
  • Experience in creating supporting diagrams, flowcharts and models that illustrates the desired outcome in various settings around automation
  • Ensure continued functionality of the process during maintenance and other functional processes
    • Document each aspect of a system or process as a reference for future upgrades and maintenance
    • Revisit the development process to address client or consumer concerns
    • Must have knowledge and experience working with process instrumentation and controls
    • Effective written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative team environment that includes shared responsibilities, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with others to support team and company objectives and a willingness to work in all areas of the facility
    • Exposure to and understanding of Instrumentation and Electrical Safety practices
  • Preferred experience and proficiency in the following:
    • Leading team dynamics as part of a larger system support structure
    • Developing technical skills in others
    • Managing workflow and technical team responsibilities
    • Drives, PLCs, and HMI’s is highly preferred
    • Deep understanding of various electrical systems
    • Project Management:
      • Scope and organize information supporting the capital process
      • Integration and integrator management
      • Costing and purchasing control
      • Commissioning and support during qualification phases
      • Closeout and documentation control
    • Understanding of Supervisory Systems
      • LAN
      • Historian
      • SQL
      • MES
      • HMI Software

Pay Range: $90,000 - $105,000, and may include a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
