Job Description

Reporting to the Group Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, you will provide visible in field coaching to the leadership team and operational support.  You will act as an advisory support for successful mentoring by the leadership team to support good safety behaviours.  In addition, you will provide the required technical and leadership support, coaching and mentoring to line management and operational staff to successfully deliver on the agreed business EHS strategic and tactical goals and targets.

You will ensure the ongoing enhancement, development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Safety, Health, and Environment Management Systems throughout the Business Group operations in accordance with legislative and organizational policies and procedures.  You will also guide the business in achieving its goals without compromising safety or health and always encourage a positive and pro-active approach to safety throughout the Group’s operations.

Our business is growing, and this is a brand-new role which is based in Parnell, Auckland. There will be some local travel as well as the occasional international travel to the Pacific Islands as required.

Qualifications

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH) or a related discipline preferred, with 3 years of workplace experience
  • Previous experience in conducting incident investigations
  • Experience working in a high-risk industry specifically in shipping, logistics and dealing with dangerous goods.
  • High level of knowledge of relevant Health and Safety NZ legislation and audit standards
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, 'root cause' exploration skills
  • Proficiency in a range of computer packages and safety risk management platforms

Your can-do attitude and resilience will place you in good stead in this fast-paced environment. You will love problem solving, and be able to exercise sound business judgment; have the ability to anticipate issues and resolve them, as well as excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) to facilitate clear and concise communication with a high level of professionalism as you will be conducting training and presentations as part of this role. You thrive in a collaborative environment with highly developed interpersonal skills to collaborate and build strong relationships at all levels of the organisation as you will be liaising with people from all over APAC.

Your attention to detail will be top notch as you will thrive in constructing the documentation for policies and procedures for safety as well as helping with any safety related audits. Your ability to multi-task and prioritise will be the secret of your success. Your can-do attitude and passion for continuous improvement will ensure we are consistently streamlining processes within the business. Previous ICAM or lean methodology will be beneficial.
