Established in 1997, Neptune Pacific Line (NPL) has grown from strength to strength, originally connecting Australia, New Zealand and Fiji trades in liner and bulk shipping services, to today, providing services for most Pacific Island nations, Australia, NZ as well as extending services to Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Europe, South Africa, and North America.  In 2014, NPL continued to strengthen its presence in the South Pacific through a Pacific Forum Line Joint venture with the Government of Samoa.  Pacific Direct Line (PDL) joined NPDL in March 2020, expanding Neptune’s shipping and agency network as well as a vertical asset providing deeper supply chain services including sea and airfreight, 3PL, warehousing, trucking, fumigation and energy trading.

The Group Accountant will need to be a very strong all-rounder with substantial hands-on transactional experience and a flexible can-do attitude. The incumbent will be required initially to pick up numerous ad-hoc work, to deputise and assist the members of the Fiji accounting team as required, and assist with Finance implementation / integration projects. The incumbent will be an important member of the Fiji Accounting team, working closely with the Director Finance and the Group Finance Manager – Corporate, to ensure each month end close and submissions to the corporate head offices and external stakeholders are completed accurately, efficiently and within the required deadlines.

Job Description

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Work with the Finance staff in the Fiji entities to ensure month/year end (“YE”) reporting and any supplementary information is completed accurately in line with reporting timetables
  • Fully manage the intercompany positions within Fiji and with offshore entities, ensuring all intercompany positions are fully reconciled across both Income Statement and Balance Sheet
  • Be the point of contact for the Fiji entities on the annual external audits and assist the Fiji accounting team to ensure the audits are completed accurately and efficiently with minimal to zero adjustments
  • Be the point of contact for the Fiji entities on the tax packs submitted to the corporate head offices and assist the Fiji accounting team to ensure all tax requests are covered off accurately and efficiently
  • Work with the Fiji accounting team, the NPDL Group Finance team and NPDL Tax Manager to ensure the Fiji entities complete their local statutory obligations in a timely and efficient manner
  • Provide support to the Fiji accounting team on management reporting requests
  • Other tasks as directed

Qualifications

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

  • Qualified CA/CPA with at least 3-4 years’ audit experience in a ‘Big 4’ accounting firm
  • Strong finance systems experience, hands on +3years with some shipping industry experience

Additional Information

  • Sound, up to date Technical Accounting experience (IFRS essential, US GAAP advantageous)
  • Experience of compiling a detailed YE Reporting pack to Auditors, including fully complete balance sheet reconciliations and have hands on experience with YE tax and deferred tax calculations
  • Advanced Excel skills including the ability to analysis large volumes of data
  • Good understanding of what Best Practice looks like, very good attention to detail with the intent to do the task the correctly the first time, Collaboration with diverse teams and understanding of the Principal/Agency model
  • Highly developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively at all levels
  • Experience of reporting into an overseas parent, preferably the US.
