The Restaurant at JUSTIN, Maitre’D, is responsible for receiving and greeting the guests, supporting servers as needed to best service the guests needs and to provide the utmost guest experiences. The Maitre’D will additionally answer reservation inquiries via email and phone, and confirm/manage reservations utilizing the tock reservation system. The Maitre’D will support management in administrative work including but not limited to menu printing, sales calendars, floor plans, etc. This position requires a candidate with a very strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and customer service experience. 

Job Description

  • Take all restaurant reservations as they come in via phone, email, internal, etc.
  • Be well versed in flow of service, seating times, servers on the floor. Including how these items may impact the culinary team. All things considered to ensure best guest experience.
  • Understanding hierarchy of guests based on “best seats” available to ensure guests are properly taken care of.
  • Executing the fine dining experience commensurate with JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery’s mission statement and core values.
  • Support as needed the set up and breakdown of Dining Room for service which can include polishing, table set-up, maintenance of fresh flower centerpieces, ensuring that the floor plan is reflective of reservations.
  • Participates in compliance with all Opening and Closing duties as determined and published by The Restaurant at JUSTIN Manager.
  • Prior to service, consults with Chefs/Manager regarding 86 Lists, Menu Changes, Modifications to Service Standards and any/all information regarding the sourcing of menu items.
  • During service, greet guests as they arrive. Managing the flow of tables coming to The Restaurant in real time. Once received, seat guests in appropriate order to the correct table assignments.
  • Communicates with managers or purchasing team regarding wine, beer, beverage and other materials needed for service.
  • At the conclusion of service, resets dining room, and completes closing side work.
  • Attends staff Hospitality meetings
  • Continually educates and informs oneself of all new JUSTIN releases as well as JUSTIN Library wines, viticulture and winemaking techniques
  • Assist JUST Inn concierge team in taking ‘overflow’ calls as service demands.
  • All job duties will be performed to Forbes 5 star standards or greater.

Qualifications

  • Genuine understanding of the importance of providing outstanding customer service.
  • Proficient in typing as well as basic understanding of Office systems (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Grace under pressure; a strong sense of urgency, insistent attention to detail with a desire to exceed customer’s expectations.
  • Must have prior experience in an upscale, fine dining environment.
  • A thorough understanding of food, to include origins, prep methods and techniques, ingredients and ingredient combinations.
  • Knowledge of wine and viticulture.
  • A strong food vocabulary and ability to understand a sophisticated food menu.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

  EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Two-years of fine dining restaurant experience in the front of house
  • Proven success working in a customer service position or industry
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
