Job Description

The Buyer will lead procurement activities for critical inventories materials by representing Suterra’s operations needs with vendors.  We are an entrepreneurial driven, fast paced organization with decade long, double-digit growth that hires highly motivated and trained leaders for our teams. 

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional in Sourcing and Vendor Management that wants to support and grow with an organization who is fundamentally changing the nature of the global food supply.   We're looking for those who can source/qualify materials, manage pending/automated ordering systems and identify supply options for existing materials which will bring cost, quality and lead times improvements to Suterra.

This position is based in our Bend, Oregon headquarters and will require quarterly travel to vendors and manufacturing partners.  This role provides an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team focused on developing and strengthening our procurement processes and activities.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Participate in weekly material planning meetings providing availability and lead time insights for materials.
  • Manage vendor relationships, tracking and reporting vendor performance to identify risks, opportunities and create action plans to maximize value for Suterra.
  • Drive resolution of quality issues related to vendor supplied materials, collaborating with internal quality and engineering teams.
  • Lead supply chain management for imported materials working with external logistics and customs broker partners.
  • Ownership of new supplier onboarding to ensure successful and timely implementation of supply.
  • Collaborating with Demand Planning, Production and Customer Service to coordinate material purchases and to pursue emerging market opportunities and product launches.

Qualifications

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

2+ years’ experience in a high-performance business in purchasing, supply chain, manufacturing, engineering or related function.

Beyond the procurement responsibilities, this person can expect to be:

  • A collaborator: Partner with departments across the company to provide procurement expertise to support effective purchase and inventory decision making.
  • A problem solver: Connect the dots to create clarity, explore options and drive supply chain problems to resolution, limiting impact on production and risks for the business.
