Job Description

The role:

Neptune Pacific Line’s Ship Management Team is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and compliant operation of our fleet of container, general cargo and other managed vessels operating primarily in the Asia Pacific region, including New Zealand and Australia. We strive to continuously improve our ship management activities, with an overarching goal of being a “best in class” ship manager. Working in a complex, ever-changing environment we work hard to stay ahead of the pack.

To help us achieve this, we are looking for a Marine Superintendent HSQE to monitor the safety, quality and environmental aspects related to the operation of our fleet.  You will ensure that management systems are established, implemented, and maintained in accordance with the requirements of the ISM Code, as well as assisting with the development and administration of the compliance framework. Additionally, you will be working closely with the Marine Superintendent DPA (Designated Person Ashore), reporting on the performance of the management systems, including recommendations for improvement.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Ensure compliance pertaining to Environmental Aspects, Objectives, Targets and Programs
  • Ensure proper registration, follow up and reporting of PSC, FSC and local inspections in cooperation with relevant parties
  • Prepare training material, educate, coach, manage and assist marine staff enabling them to handle all HSQE related matters and topics
  • Coordinate with suppliers, Flag State authorities, Classification Societies and other legislative bodies
  • Keep colleagues and managers abreast and aware of changes to various regulations affecting the day-to-day operation of the vessels
  • Assist in identifying and developing, specific procedures which will improve safety aspects
  • Maintain, administer, and improve the Company’s Safety Management System
  • Oversee and manage accident and incident reporting, investigations, deficiencies, non-conformities and corrective actions
  • Arrange internal and external ISM/ISPS/MLC audits; collating the data to ensure preventive action is carried out. 

International travel is a critical part for this role where you may need to leave at short notice to conduct inspections or investigations.

Qualifications

Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:

  • Experience as Master Mariner preferably with 2-3 years shore based experience in a similar role
  • Experience onboard or ashore with container handling and operations
  • Trained in ISM/ISPS/MLC Internal audits and accident investigations.
  • Good foundation in HSEQ management and international requirements as well as industry best practices on preventing crewmembers from harm
  • Strong knowledge of IMO regulations, ISM/ ISPS/ MLC Code
  • Experienced Microsoft Office Suite user; experience with HSEQ systems is beneficial
  • Strong drive and passion towards keeping our people, our assets and the environment in which they operate, safe
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to act with tact and diplomacy
  • Resilient, pro-active, self-starter
  • Enjoys initiating and implementing changes, working in a structured and well-organized manner
  • A team player who effectively coordinates with the rest of the team and shows responsibility, flexibility and respect towards the other members
