Job Description

Wonderful Orchards is seeking an experienced GIS Specialist to support our Shafter, CA corporate agricultural operations. This position is responsible for collecting, maintaining, mapping and analyzing all spatial data for over 145,000 acres across 5 counties for all Wonderful Orchards properties including legal property boundaries, ranch infrastructure, hydrologic systems, soils, environmental impacts, and individual tree coverage.

Responsibilities including:

  • Maintaining shapefiles and feature classes and generating reports including new and historical proposed crop usage, acreage, varieties, yields, plantings, etc.
  • Develop and manage ArcGIS Desktop resources including field trial maps, project maps, and annual reporting
  • Publishing and maintaining web maps with Arcgis.com
  • Perform spatial analysis with a variety of internal and external data sources related to farming operations, crop production, water use, and land use.
  • Ensure data integrity throughout all GIS resources, including data collection, data storage and data usage
  • Coordinate with farming divisions and other departments to determine user needs, integrate data and ensure integrity of all related data.
  • Perform and manage in field data gathering and auditing
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • COVID vaccination will be required for this position unless candidate has a legally valid exemption
  • Advanced degree in Geography or equivalent combination education and experience, Management Information Systems, Geology, Agriculture or related field and 1+ years working GIS knowledge. GIS certification preferred
  • Advanced skill in ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, Arcgis.com, ESRI mobile applications, and other products by ESRI
  • AutoCAD workflows and exports experience preferred
  • Experience with Trimble GPS units preferred
  • Experience in Python and other programming languages preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Attention to detail and a deep understanding of methods to ensure data integrity
  • Effective reporting and communication skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities and tasks.
