In 1981, we planted our first vineyard with a mission to make world-class Bordeaux-style blends, but since then we’ve expanded our knowledge of viticulture in the unique region of Paso Robles. At JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery, we combine traditional Old-World methods like hand-harvesting and small-barrel aging in French oak with New World technology. We are looking for a Cellar Worker I to join our team!

Under general supervision, the Cellar Worker I performs various work assignments to include: racking, pumping, clarifying and blending of juice and wine. They Operate and care for filters, pumps, presses, hoses and other cellar equipment.  They check temperature of tanks during fermentation, stabilizing and storage.

Job Description

  • Performs volume calculations for wine blending and wine movements
  • Transfers, racks, filters, and blends wines as needed
  • Mixes tanks as needed for cold stability
  • Gases head space on partial tanks on a weekly basis
  • Makes chemical and yeast additions to wine as needed
  • Responsible for sanitation of cellar area equipment and tanks
  • Samples tanks as needed
  • Responsible for monitoring and replenishing cellar inventory of supplies
  • Monitors temperature of wine tanks
  • Cleans, maintains and organizes barrels as needed
  • Assists in set up and clean up duties, including cleaning of labeler parts, hosing down floors, and storing packaging materials
  • Assist with still wine barrel work
  • Occasionally responsible for hand labeling, stacking and removing bottles from cellar walls
  • Assists with all harvest duties

Qualifications

  • Prior harvest cellar experience required
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Communication verbally and in writing in English preferred, but not required 
  • Ability to meet physical demands, including, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, kneeling, and lifting over 55 lbs.
  • COVID vaccination will be required for this position unless candidate has a legally valid exemption
