Job Description

SUMMARY:

To serve as the area specialist in safety by developing and carrying out procedures with the line organization that effectively control incident rates and health exposures in the company and minimize overall work-related incidents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Investigates serious injuries in conjunction with line and staff personnel. Notifies management of pertinent details.
  • Guides and assists plant personnel at locations with critical safety and health opportunities.
  • Overviews company incident statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas.
  • Assists in planning safety and industrial hygiene services of insurance carriers and internal resources to obtain optimum service.
  • Assists in the oversite of internal forklift and aerial lift certification processes.
  • Works with professional organizations to promote goals and objectives in the health and safety area that affect the company’s business.
  • Coordinates injuries with the worker’s compensation Department.
  • Assists in coordinating safety training programs with Safety Trainers.
  • Evaluates incident reports to determine accuracy and completeness and to ensure adequate investigation to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Ensures that the company is in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  •  Assists with the development and execution of programs as listed above.
  • Conducts scheduled audits to assist management in determining workplace hazards and assists in development of corrective actions.
  • Work within Oracle to create and request safety supplies and repair work orders.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Safety Manager.

Qualifications

  • COVID vaccination will be required for this position unless candidate has a legally valid exemption
  • Proficiency in computer usage, email, MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Understanding of packinghouse/warehouse processes and flow
  • Well-developed observational and analytical skills
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Able to work flexible schedules/shifts as needed for 7-day operation
  • Proven skills for planning daily/weekly tasks and adapting to competing demands
  • Strong skills developing relationships across all levels and functions
  • Read, Write and Speak Spanish
  • Bachelor's degree in a safety-related field and minimum five (5) years of experience in occupational safety, Industrial hygiene, environmental health, or related fields. Additional years of experience can be substituted in place of degree.
  • Knowledgeable in the application of OSHA regulations.
  • Knowledgeable of the worker’s compensation process.
  • Experience in administering personnel policies and procedures.
  • Must project a positive and professional image.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Be able to make decisions within scope of job.
  • Be readily receptive of additional training for the broadening of skills.
  • Must have working knowledge of the packinghouse and farming positions.
