Job Description

Overview:

Performs the daily execution of irrigation plan as directed by Nursery supervisor. Monitors irrigation, fertigation and drainage water from trees through frequent sample collection and measurement with minimum level of supervision. Maintains sample records and produce reports upon request. Adjusts computerized irrigation control system under guidelines from nursery supervisor. Performs general labor as needed throughout nursery grounds and elsewhere at the standards expected and as directed by management.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Verifies irrigation system and programs are running according to settings. Maintains irrigation scheduling log sheet up to date.
  • Under frequency determined by Nursery supervisor:
    • Collect water samples from nursery water tank, measure EC, pH, chlorine and any other determined parameters.
    • Collect samples from leached volume under the tree pots and measure EC, pH and volume.
    • Collect samples from drip line in each house and measure EC, pH, chlorine and any other determined parameters.
    • Collect samples from nutrient injection panels and measure EC, pH.
    • Collect any other samples deemed necessary by management team.
  • Record all measurements done with samples and keep an organized log in a digital format approved by nursery supervisor and produces reports under direction of Nursery supervisor.
  • Performs adjustments to irrigation scheduling and fertilization on the computer system under direction of Nursery supervisor. Maintains written record of changes done to irrigation and fertilizer system.
  • Collects samples and performs dilution tests of all new fertilizer blends done at the nursery
  • Makes adjustments, identifies problems, repairs and does field level maintenance to irrigation system.
  • Marks and reports to nursery supervisor any pipeline or valve leaks and any unusual greenhouse or tree conditions.
  • Maintains sample collection and analysis equipment in good order and properly calibrated. Keeps records of data and sampling.      
  • Routinely checks on filters, pumps, RO and chlorinating systems to ensure all is functioning properly.
  • Responsibilities also include and are not limited to:
    • Suckering Liners and budded trees
    • Greenhouse cleaning
    • Tree packing
    • Stake and Tie
    • Apply BA
    • Transplanting trees
    • Seed peeling and planting
    • Steamer SOP
    • All pest control function (Spray, injection, monitoring and closing PUR)
    • Actively engaged in 5S upkeep and philosophy

  • Have adequate leadership and communication skills to direct, schedule and coordinate personnel and services.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish desired.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is light to moderate most of the time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. Temperatures range from 85 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit or more during the year. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • To effectively meet the demands of the position, travel up to 50% and is required.
