SUMMARY OF POSITION

Responsible for creating, reviewing, and submitting engineering drawings and designs for manufacturing and installation while ensuring adherence to established specifications and standards. Effective time management of projects and adherence to quality control throughout the project life cycle are essential to this position.  The mechanical designer will be heavily involved in the day-to-day operational aspects of a project and its scope. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be knowledgeable and demonstrate expertise in Problem Solving skills (PDCA)
  • Work with Operations Team, coordinate with Production Control and Reliability while participating in FMDS initiatives and methods
  • Transform initial rough project designs into working documents using AutoCAD and/or Inventor
  • Effectively communicate designs to team members, project manager, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs

 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Language skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Mathematical skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, along with computing ratios, and percentages.  Knowledge of statistics is desirable.

Reasoning ability

  • Must be able to apply general requirements into action as it applies to the plant.  Should be able to work in a team environment to accomplish goals and complete projects.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Complex Problem Solving — Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

 

Computer skills

  • Ability to operate computers for time record approval, word processing, spreadsheets, and intranet/internet searches
  • Utilization of computer software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) are key
  • Proficiently designs in CAD software, preferably AutoCAD and/or AutoDesk Inventor  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and condensed work areas. The employee is also exposed to dust particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The dust levels in the work environment are usually high. (Safety protection will be provided)
  • The employee may spend 50% or more of their work hours on the plant floor

     

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree or High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1-2 years related experience in food manufacturing environment is preferred.
