Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Wonderful Education's aim is to dramatically increase the number of college graduates from the Central Valley of California. Since 2013, the Wonderful College Success Program has served over 1,000 scholars from Wonderful Education's three feeder prep programs: children of Wonderful employees (including the Wonderful College Prep Academies), graduates of WCPA, and students who've completed the Wonderful Ag Prep program. Through a holistic, individualized support program, robust summer programming to equip incoming first-years with the tools to succeed, and career development programming, the Wonderful College Success team guides each Scholar on his/her/their path toward earning a four-year degree.

The hallmark of the program is the Wonderful Scholarship awarded to Scholars who remain enrolled at a four-year institution, earn at least a 2.0 GPA and complete 12 or more units each term. Our team works regionally with dedicated staff in northern and southern California, the central coast, Kern county and Fresno county.

Wonderful Education deploys a College Success Senior Manager to serve as a regional leader for the team. Supervising a team of College Success Coaches and peer mentors (Wonderful scholars), managers provide operational day-to-day leadership in support of the college success program's individualized advising model, whole-group workshops and events, career program, peer mentor program oversight and represents the organization with partner institutions.

A senior manager brings a passion for and experience in higher education or youth development, a tireless commitment to helping scholars achieve their goals no matter the barrier, and the ability to contribute to a fast-paced team who works across the state, and impeccable organizational, communication and leadership skills. Senior Managers are located regionally in northern California, southern California and the Central Valley.

Oversee and supervise regional coaches and peer-mentors

Supervise a team of College Success Coaches who provide holistic, high-touch support for a caseload of scholars guiding them toward their academic and career goals while maintaining an on-track graduation timeline.

  • Supervise a team of Peer Mentors who serve as guides for first-year scholars; collaborate with other regions and Director for program development, hiring, on-boarding and program evaluation processes; regularly meet with peer mentors individually and in a group; provide necessary support and escalation when appropriate.
  • Leverage new student management system (Salesforce) to ensure that staff are maintaining accurate information about each scholar, record scholar engagements, manage tasks, applications, and other administrative tasks.
  • Develop robust on-boarding and continued training opportunities for College Success Coaches related to student advising, financial aid, academic course planning (institution and major-specific), and career development.

Scholar Case Management

  • Provide holistic, high-touch support for a small caseload (approximately 20 scholars) of scholars guiding them toward their academic and career goals while maintaining an on-track graduation timeline.

Program Management

  • Develop, customize, and execute targeted first-year programming focused on the transition to college, academic skill development, navigating campus resources, and other vital topics.
  • Identify non-academic barriers to scholarship eligibility and make program recommendations to address these barriers.
  • Manage the scholarship review process for the region.
  • Build and supervise with Wonderful Education cross-functional leaders a college work-based learning and career service program, which includes internships and job placement for their regional caseload.
  • Develop strategies to ensure scholars are prepared for career opportunities and build relationships that will ultimately result in an alumni network.
  • Identify and partner with key institutional partners to provide support services; including learning/tutoring centers, financial aid, career services, and various student life offices that support our scholars (I.e., first-generation, rural student orgs, DREAMER, Latinx community spaces and more).
  • Assist with leading the design and execution of academic year programming such as Kick-Off events, career planning webinars, team building at a specific campus, or academic office hours.
  • Regularly analyze and evaluate data and results to drive scholar support, develop appropriate interventions and make recommendations on program development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree in higher education management, teaching, youth development, or social services preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years working in higher education or a related field/role.
  • Must be willing and able to regularly travel to partner institutions within the assigned region to meet with Coaches, institutional partners, and scholars
  • A commitment and passion for educational equity and justice and the desire to work tirelessly on behalf of students from California's Central Valley.
  • An eager, flexible learner and problem solver who feels comfortable taking initiative.
  • A self-starter with an exceptional work ethic and the ability to work well away from colleagues and management.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • An ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with scholars and staff.
  • A valid California driver's license.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
