Job Description

A day in the life at Wonderful:

We seek an accomplished, innovative, and passionate Executive Director of Student Success with experience working with first-generation student populations and a proven track record of student-centered outcomes. This leadership role is paramount to our success in helping our students grow their skills and earnings to overcome generational poverty. The Executive Director of Student Success must possess a collaborative and inspirational leadership style grounded in accountability and concrete metrics, and must be a relentless advocate for students, staff, and families.

This role is based in the Central Valley of California or Los Angeles and reports to the Executive Vice President of Wonderful Education. Will require frequent travel between Central Valley and Los Angeles.

  • Oversee, improve and track achievement for 2,500 students enrolled in Wonderful Education early college pathways and college prep for high school students.
  • Support the students transitioning into the Wonderful Scholar college success program featuring college scholarships with direct college and career support.
  • Break down barriers across cultures to support underserved communities and/or academically disconnected adolescents.
  • Facilitate active involvement with The Wonderful Company and other Central Valley businesses to continuously align pathways programs with workforce needs.
  • Launch and manage new early college pathway programs, like Ag Prep, where students earn an associate degree while in high school that fast-tracks their path to completing college and/or other post-secondary opportunities
  • Develop partnerships and MOUs with high school partners, community colleges, and four-year universities to further support our Wonderful College Scholarship goals and efforts.
  • Identify and address policy and/or institutional concerns at the local, state, and/or federal levels to maximize the number of students who earn two and four-year college degrees and/or placement into gainful employment.
  • Supervise, continuously develop and lead members of the early college pathways and college prep high school programs.
  • Support the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer with data and fiscal management, marketing and recruitment, human resources, and legal issues, as needed.

Qualifications

Your contribution to Wonderful:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience as an education leader or administrator.
  • Bachelor's and graduate degree required, education and/or education strongly preferred.
  • Relentless dedication to improving the minds, characters, and lives of students both in and out of school.
  • Experience working in low-income, Latino (ideally rural/agricultural) communities.
  • Proven experience leading senior teams toward ambitious outcomes and building strong support among stakeholders.
  • History of achieving outstanding results; coaching, mentoring, and managing others in a collaborative, fast-paced, and high-performing environment.
  • Experience leading a startup or a significant change management effort.
  • The desire to work in an entrepreneurial environment, to take initiative, pay attention to detail, and work tirelessly on behalf of students in the Central Valley, with a disciplined focus on continuous improvement.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; superior analytic skills.
  • Familiarity with the Central Valley of California or, at a minimum, similarly rural, agricultural, immigrant communities.
  • COVID vaccination will be required for this position unless the candidate has a legally valid exemption.
